For some reason, whenever I am asked what I do as an artist, I rarely think to tell the inquirer that I am an educator and organizer. I usually attempt to categorize myself within a more traditional studio arts box – I’m a fibers artist but do a lot of interdisciplinary mixed-media work and installation. The answer is usually confusing, even for me. Part of this inability to explain my practice to others perhaps is due to a fear that they may not understand education or social practice as art. Much of it though, comes from the fact that I am still defining my practice for myself, finding my place in the realm that exists between a personal studio practice and a public practice as a facilitator and educator.
